"Poem for Interview"

"Merry Go 'Round"
by Kacey Musgraves

If you ain't got two kids by 21,
You're probably gonna die alone.
Least that's what tradition told you.
And it don't matter if you don't believe,
Come Sunday morning, you best be there in the front row like you're supposed to.

Same hurt in every heart.
Same trailer, different park.

Mama's hooked on Mary Kay.
Brother's hooked on Mary Jane.
Daddy's hooked on Mary two doors down.
Mary, Mary quite contrary.
We get bored, so, we get married
Just like dust, we settle in this town.
On this broken merry go 'round and 'round and 'round we go
Where it stops nobody knows and it ain't slowin' down.
This merry go 'round.

We think the first time's good enough.
So, we hold on to high school love.
Sayin' we won't end up like our parents.
Tiny little boxes in a row.
Ain't what you want, it's what you know.
Just happy in the shoes you're wearin'.
Same checks we're always cashin' to buy a little more distraction.

'Cause mama's hooked on Mary Kay.
Brother's hooked on Mary Jane.
Daddy's hooked on Mary two doors down.
Mary, Mary, quite contrary.
We get bored, so, we get married.
Just like dust, we settle in this town.
On this broken merry go 'round and 'round and 'round we go
Where it stops nobody knows and it ain't slowin' down.
This merry go 'round.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary.
We're so bored until we're buried.
Just like dust, we settle in this town.
On this broken merry go 'round.
Merry go 'round.

Jack and Jill went up the hill.
Jack burned out on booze and pills.
And Mary had a little lamb.
Mary just don't give a damn no more.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Through the Looking-Glass

The 1951 Disney film Alice in Wonderland was directed by Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson and Hamilton Luske. Besides Alice in Wonderland these directors have made Peter Pan and Cinderella, Geronimi made 101 Dalmatians and both Jackson and Luske made Lady and the Tramp.

Alice in Wonderland starts off with Alice and her older sister sitting by a river bank Alice's sister is trying to get Alice to focus on her studies. However Alice finds the whole idea boring and starts to drift off to sleep when she suddenly sees a white rabbit in a waistcoat.

Alice finds the rabbit fascinating and decides to follow him down a rabbit hole. It just so happens that the rabbit hole Alice goes down leads to a magical land known as Wonderland.

Upon arriving in Wonderland Alice goes through a series of mishaps in search of the white rabbit from shrinking to becoming a giant, to meeting a talking doorknob, a hookah-smoking caterpillar, having a "unbirthday" tea party with a mad hatter, a march hare and a dormouse. Eventually her travels lead her to the Queen of Hearts, who has a very short temper and beheads anyone who makes her angry this includes Alice.

The one consent pest through out Alice's travels is the Cheshire Cat who while seems like he is helping Alice also gets her into trouble.

With not only the Queen of Hearts after her Alice runs for her life and manages to make it back to the talking doorknob who informs her that she is dreaming and if she just wakes up she can escape. Upon waking up from her dream Alice realises that what she thought would be a Wonderland was really more a nightmare.

The reason I like Alice in Wonderland is because its full of twists and turns and nothing is as it seems. The fact that Alice at first yearns to go to a place she feels would be better then the one she is in is something everyone can relate to however in the end like Alice once we get there we might just be looking for a way back home.

I think if people try hard enough anyone can relate to Alice's story and can learn something from her. While it may be nice to escape sometimes we all have to get back to reality at some point.

Alice in Wonderland mainly takes place in Wonderland ( a magical world where everything is backwards and upside down). Alice is the main antagonist of  the film she is a somewhat spoiled girl with an over active imagination who longs to escape from the mundane activities of life. Once in Wonderland Alice goes through an external conflict against the residents of Wonderland and an internal conflict in trying to find her way out of Wonderland/her own mind.

What we as an audience can take from this film/story is don't go chasing after something just cause we are curious of it cause in the end it might not be worth. Alice comes to this realisation when she follows the white rabbit down the hole only to be taken to a world where everything is strange to her and ends up wishing she had never gone there to begin with.

We can also take from the film/story that your not really living if your not living in the now, this is shown by the fact that Alice choses to escape to a world inside her head instead of focusing on what she is suppose to be doing.

All around I feel that Alice in Wonderland has more then one underlining meaning and that to truly understand its full effect we'll just have to travel back with Alice to Wonderland again and again.

Tuesdays With Morrie

Morrie Swartz

The novel Tuesdays with Morrie is about Mitch Albom, a successful sports journalist who has forgot what its like to truly live and Morrie Swartz, Mitch's old professor who is dying of A.L.S (Lou Gehrig's disease) who is making most out his life that he can.

Every Tuesday the two meet so that Morrie can teach Mitch lessons on "the meaning of life" before Morrie passes away. Through these lessons Mitch starts to realise that life is what you make of it not what society tells you it should be.

By reading the novel Tuesdays with Morrie the reader can get a better understanding how each individual views life and how our lives are made by the discussions we make.

While some people may view life as means to get rich and be successful resulting in them becoming to absorbed in there job then the world around them.Others may see it as enjoying what life has to offer whether it be small or big and not taking these things for granted.

It is inevitable we will all pass on one day who we are and the discussions we make is what defends us in the end, not our job title or how much money we make.

Once we all start understanding this we can all start truly living.

Aline and I (Rich for One Day)

In the story Rich for One Day the character Aline considers herself rich because she lives her life the way she wants too and doesn't have to do anything she doesn't feel like doing. She lives in a dream like state by pretending that taxis are limos with a chauffeur, that eight dollars is a fortune and by refusing to ride the bus because she doesn't like the lightening on it.

Comparing Aline to myself, I would say that we are very different people. I don't view the world with my eyes shut, I know that I have responsibilities and that I can't just do what I want because I want too.

While Aline likes to imagine her life is something else then it is instead of actually make her life that way by working hard. I see my life how it is and work hard to get the life I dream of instead of just imagining it is that.

I think if Aline at some point opens her eyes and sees the way things really are for her, she might have a different view of her life and it might be one that is more similar to how I view the world. Until then I don't think Aline and I will have much in common when it comes to life views.

Monster VS. Man

http://sharetv.org/images/posters/frankenstein_1931.jpgThe 1931 film Frankenstein by James Whale stars Colin Clive as Doctor Henry Frankenstein and Boris Karloff as The Monster.

In the film Dr. Frankenstein finds it a good idea to play God and create a Monster out of body parts that he steals from the dead. With the use of lightening and electric machines Dr. Frankenstein manages to bring the Monster to life.

Things go wrong for the Monster right off the bat, it all starts when the Monster is frightened by the torch that Dr. Frankenstein's assistant Fritz is holding and continues to go wrong when he mistakenly thinks a little girl can float in the water like a flower and throws her in the lake. These events along with others makes Dr. Frankenstein regret his creation and he decides he must destroy the Monster. With the help of the townspeople Dr. Frankenstein manages to kill the Monster and bring peace back to the town.

Watching the film in 2013 probably doesn't have the same effect it did back in 1931, most people will find the movie pretty tame by today's standards. The special effects in the film can make the movie seem more cheesy then realistic and cause the audience to laugh then be afraid. The one thing I believe the audience will still get from the film today that they did in 1931 is that what we may think is evil and dangerous may just be misunderstood and if we took the time to get to try and understand what we don't we may find that things aren't always as they seem.

In the end the real monster of the film is the townspeople for not trying to understand the Monster and instead decide to destroy the Monster because he is different.
